Emergency checklist
This tool cannot determine medical safety. If someone may be in immediate danger, use the steps below.
- If there is immediate danger, a suicide attempt, active intent to self-harm, chest pain, fainting, confusion, or concern the person may be medically unstable, call 911 or go to the nearest local hospital. If there is suicidal thinking, self-harm urges, or emotional crisis without immediate danger, call or text 988.
- After immediate safety steps are underway, contact the outpatient therapist, physician, pediatrician, psychiatrist, or current treatment team when available.
- If a treatment program is already involved, ask what records they need from the hospital or clinician to coordinate next steps.
